This 2024, we are pleased to announce the publication of our new article in the prestigious journal Nature Neuroscience.

The published article reviews the brain changes that occur during the transition to motherhood. It highlights a balance between brain plasticity and stability, which is necessary for adapting to the new challenges of childcare.

In addition to emphasizing the structural changes in the brain, the article underlines how these neurobiological processes can have a profound impact on mothers’ mental health. The balance between plasticity, which allows the brain to adapt to new demands, and stability, which maintains essential functions, is crucial in this process. The article also discusses how the type of childbirth, whether vaginal or cesarean, may influence these brain changes, with specific adaptations depending on birth circumstances.

This study offers a new perspective on the maternal brain, contributing to a better understanding of the mechanisms that ensure maternal mental health and the emotional bond with their babies. It is a valuable contribution to research on neuroplasticity during such a significant time as the transition to motherhood.
